The Fifth Avenue Coach Company began as a horse drawn bus operation in 1885 and started operating gasoline powered buses in New York City in 1906. In 1916 the company began to manufacture their own Type A double-deck buses, some of which were sold to other operators. From 1921 Fifth Avenue Coach began to produce other models, including lower height double-deck buses and single-deck buses.
Fifth Avenue Coach sold its bus building business to Yellow Coach in 1925 (see Yellow Coach/GM Coach).
