A group of businessmen including F. C. Chandler from the Lozier Motor Company came to Cleveland in 1913 to build their own motor car. Their company was initially called Emise Motor Car Company but this was soon changed to the Chandler Motor Car Company.
The Chandler was a medium-priced, 27 hp six-cylinder automobile and was initially offered as a touring, limousine or coupe. The Chandler was an immediate success with first year sales of over 2,700 units. The Chandler became a popular and well regarded automobile with sales continuing to grow each year, as the range of body styles also grew. The best production year was 1926 when over 20,000 cars were built.
The company set up the Cleveland Automobile Company in 1919 to build a smaller and cheaper companion car called the Cleveland (see Cleveland). In 1926 this subsidiary was absorbed into Chandler-Cleveland Corporation. But there were serious problems in the management of the company. In 1928 the company was absorbed by the Hupp Motor Car Corporation and Chandler production was stopped after 1929.
Emblems
There were many similar Chandler radiator emblems used for the many models and body styles offered. It is difficult to identify and date all of these emblems. Dates are given where known.
The first Chandler radiator emblem was a black and white enameled dog bone-shaped emblem, see example above at the top of this post. This emblem was used for many years on certain Chandler models.

There was a very different Chandler radiator emblem design in 1926. The Chandler radiator emblem shown below depicts a crown and a trophy cup, which represent the success of Chandler at the Pike's Peak hill climb contest in 1925.

The Chandler radiator emblems for the six-cylinder and eight-cylinder models were changed again for the final year of production in 1929, see examples below:

The Chandler 8 emblem shown below is a smaller, pressed metal painted emblem. It may be a hub emblem but I cannot confirm this.
