The Baldwin was built by the Slaymaker-Barry Company in Connellsville, Pennsylvania for the Baldwin Automobile Manufacturing Company. The first Baldwin steam car was on the road in 1899 and had a two-cylinder double-acting vertical engine and a simple body design with room for two passengers.
Financial problems limited production which occurred in fits and starts as finance became available with a total production of only 12 cars.
Emblem
The Baldwin steam car did not carry an emblem but did have a maker's nameplate with the serial number of the unit, see example above. This nameplate is ultra rare.
