The Empire State Automobile Company was established in Rochester, New York in May 1900. The Empire State was a chain driven runabout, powered by a 4-1/2 hp single-cylinder engine mounted under the seat with tiller steering and wire wheels. The Empire State was finished in 1901.
Very few Empire State runabouts were actually built.
Emblem
The Empire State did not have a radiator and did not carry an emblem. However, the Empire State name was displayed on a small name plate attached to the body, probably under the seat, see example shown above. This Empire State name plate is extremely rare.
