The Whippet was small and fast and was a very successful motor car produced by the Willys Overland Company (see Willys Knight/Willys) to relace the Overland car (see Overland). When introduced in 1926 the Whippet was America's smallest car.

The Whippet began as a 30 hp four-cylinder car with a 40 hp six-cylinder model following in 1927. A Whippet Six took a new American record for stock cars in a 24 hour endurance run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to demonstrate its speedy ability. The Whippet was also competitively priced and claimed to be "the world's lowest priced six".

Whippet sales for its first year in production were 110,000 units and excellent sales continued in 1928 and 1929 but fell to just over 8,000 in 1930. The Wall Street crash and the following Depression resulted in serious problems for Willys and the Whippet was discontinued in early 1931.

Emblems

The following red, white and blue enamel Whippet radiator emblem was used on the first four-cylinder Model 96 Whippet cars from late 1926 to the end of 1928:

There was another change in Whippet radiator emblem designs from 1929. 

The following metal Whippet Four radiator emblem was used for the four-cylinder Model 96A cars from January 1929 to August 1930:

The following metal Whippet Six radiator emblem was used on the Model C101 1-1/2-ton Whippet truck in 1929 until the truck was rebadged as Willys in 1930. This Whippet truck radiator emblem is scarce.

There was a change in the metal Whippet radiator emblem for the four-cylinder Model 96A from September 1930 to the end of Whippet production in 1931, see example shown above at the top of this post and again below:

The following brass Whippet script decoration has been seen attached to the radiator core on a surviving Whippet from 1926. This Whippet radiator script is rare.
