Durant Motors manufactured a popular line of cars and commercial vehicles under the name Star from 1922 to 1928 (see Star).
Star passenger cars and trucks were rebadged as Rugby for export to the UK, Australasia, India and South Africa, in order to avoid trademark issues with a different Star built in the UK. Most, but not all, Rugby vehicles were built in the Durant plant in Toronto, Canada, in order to take advantage of more favorable import tariffs for Canadian products in these markets.
After 1927, the Rugby name was also used for commercial vehicles sold in America.
Emblems
It has been suggested that the first Rugby export models in 1923 may have used a black and white painted Rugby radiator emblem similar to the illustration shown below. If you have better details of this Rugby emblem, please let me know, in order to update this post. If this Rugby radiator emblem does exist, it would be extremely rare.
