Springfield, Massachusetts

Size: 52mm diameter    MM: None

The Orson was named after the son of Horace M. Kilborn, vice-president of the National City Bank of New York. It was planned to build the Orson, sometimes called the "Banker's Car" or "Millionaire's Car", through a cooperative of 100 prominent Wall Street bankers who would share the cost of manufacturing 100 cars, following which the car would be put on the market.

The Orson was a large 40 hp four-cylinder touring car and was built in Springfield, Massachusetts for the Orson Automobile Company by the Brightwood Manufacturing Company with coachwork made by the Springfield Metal Body Company. About 80 bankers' cars were built by 1911 but, although the Orson Automobile Manufacturing Company was established in 1912, further production or marketing of the Orson did not happen.

Emblem

There is no evidence that I can find of an Orson radiator emblem. If you have any details of an Orson emblem, please let me know, in order to update this post.

The "Orson" name was certainly displayed on the hubcaps, see Orson hub face shown below and hub emblem shown above at the top of this post. Original Orson hub emblems are very rare:

The following is an over painted Orson hubcap:

The "Orson" name was also displayed on an Orson nameplate/serial plate attached to the dash, see unused example shown below. Original Orson serial plates are very rare.
